SOUND OFF / Health Care Reform

So much for fair Health Care Legislation

Posted: Monday, December 21, 2009 by Noonan

While most Americans are far from naive about the presence of last minute back room deals in order to buy crucial Senate votes needed to pass legislation, I think we can all still be rightly outraged about the actions taken by President Obama’s team and their fellow Democrats in ensuring the support of Nebraska Senator Bill Nelson as the crucial 60th vote necessary to potentially pass their Health Care Reform Bill.

In being the final Democrat holdout Nelson was in a position to name his price and that’s exactly what he did.  As a result this bill now promises to completely federally fund the entire expanded Medicaid population for the state of Nebraska in perpetuity.  There is no other state in the country getting this preferential treatment.  Individual states have always been required to fund Medicaid from their own budgets, except now of course Nebraska, all because their Senator put his vote up for sale and the Obama Administration was all too happy to buy it.

So much for a fair and ethical Health Care Bill and so much for continued support by other Senate democrats if some others want the same special treatment for their individual states as well.
