I've always liked Dan Rather. The pictures I see of him always have books in them. He's reading a book. There's a pile of books next to his chair. He wrote a book. Definitely a well-educated man. So I was surprised by his latest quip about Obama not being able to sell watermelons. And, it isn't as though he can claim "oops, I slipped" because selling watermelons isn't really on the tip of anybody's tongue. Maybe selling ice to eskimos is. Or fire to the devil. Or candy to a kid. But watermelons? He thought long and hard about that one, and it most certainly is a deliberate attempt to very subtly stereotype a racial profile.
